Example of linked mark book assessment areas

In the following example, three mark book assessment areas have been created against the German A class S/GEEA1:

These are created as mark book assessment areas because they do not need to be displayed on the student reports. See Maintaining mark book assessment areas from Student Results Maintenance.

Staff Mark Book (populated, linked example, cut down)

These have been linked to the Assignment subject assessment area, using the Summarise to Seq field on each assignment. See Linking mark book assessment areas to a subject assessment area.

Mr Diamond has entered the details for each of the assignments on the Mark Book tab of Student Results Maintenance. See Student Results Maintenance - Mark Book tab.

Student Results Maintenance - Mark Book tab (linked example)

Mr Diamond then clicks Apply on the All Students tab of Student Results Maintenance. Synergetic calculates and summarises the Assignment assessment area, based on the results entered for the three Mark Book assessment areas. See Student Results Maintenance - All Students tab.

For example, let us review Amanda Adamski's results. Amanda got:

Synergetic calculated an Assignment value of 79. The following table reviews the arithmetic rules that Synergetic uses.

Weighting Factor

Individual Mark Book Grade = Mark Book Grade X Weighting Factor

Mark Book:

16/20= 80% * 0.2 = 16

Mark Book:
Assignment 2

35/40= 92% * 0.4 = 36.8

Mark Book:

25/40= 66% * 0.4 = 26.4

Summarised to Assessment area:

Total weighting factor is 1

Total Mark for Assignments is:

(16 + 36.8 + 26.4) * 100 = 79.2 ÷ 1.0 = 79.2

= 79 after rounding

Sum (Mark Book grades) * (Assignments MarkOutOf) ÷ Weighting Factor
