Creating new VELS subject assessment areas

VELS (Victorian Education Learning Standards) has a defined set of assessment standards:

To create a new VELS subject assessment area for a selected subject:

  1. Open the Set Subject Assessment Search Criteria window. See Searching for subjects and assessment areas.

    The Subject Assessment Selector window and the Subject Assessment Maintenance windows are displayed.

  2. Open the Area tab of the Subject Assessment Maintenance window. See Subject Assessment Maintenance - Area tab - Area sub-tab.

    Note: To create a new subject assessment area, you must be in the Area tab. To create a new subject assessment, you must be in the Summary tab. See Subject Assessment Maintenance - Summary tab - Summary sub-tab. Click Goto Area button and Goto Summary button to toggle between the different tabs.

  3. You can:

  4. Select one of the VELS result types from the Result Type drop-down list.

    Tip: Right click to create a VELS entry in the lookup table if required.

  5. Click Finish button.

    The VELS Search window is displayed.

  6. Select the domain from the Domain drop-down list.

    The VELS Search window is redisplayed with the available dimensions.

  7. Select the required dimension.
  8. Click OK button.

    The new subject assessment is displayed in the subject assessment area grid of the Subject Assessment Selector and Subject Assessment Maintenance windows. An external link is created with the VELS dimension.

  9. Move the area to a different sequence number, if required. See Moving an assessment area to another sequence.
  10. Update the details of the subject assessment area. See Maintaining subject assessment areas.
