Adding a weighted average formula to student results

To add a weighted average formula to student results, you use the Formula sub-tab of Subject Assessment Maintenance:

  1. Search for the subject assessment. See Searching for subjects and assessment areas.
  2. Open the Area sub-tab of Subject Assessment Maintenance. See Subject Assessment Maintenance - Area tab - Area sub-tab.

  3. Set the weighting factors for each of the assessment areas on the Area sub-tab. For example:

Note: It is important to be consistent across each of the assessment areas used in the weighted calculations.

  1. Create a new assessment area to calculate and store the weighted average. See Creating new subject assessment areas.

    Note: While not strictly assessment areas, the calculation 'assessment areas' are used to calculate results and summarise them, as required.

  2. Select the Formula sub-tab. See Subject Assessment Maintenance - Area tab - Formula sub-tab.

  3. Select the @sfWeightedAverage function from the Function field.

  4. Select the areas to use in the formula. In this example, select:

  5. Select a suitable result type, preferably one that is numeric without a mask.

  6. Update the Weighting Factor.

  7. Update the output format of the field to suit your needs.

  8. Click Check button.

    Information - check successful

  9. Click OK button.
  10. Click Save icon.

    The changes to the subject assessment and its areas are saved.

  11. Search for the results for a class of the selected subject. See Searching for student results.

    The All Students tab of Student Results Maintenance window is displayed with the results for the class.

  12. Click Refresh icon.
  13. Click Apply.

    The result for the class is calculated on the Student Results Maintenance window.
