Understanding calendar memberships

Calendar memberships grant community members the ability to view calendars. See the Calendar.

Community members can have up to four calendar memberships in Synergetic:

• automatic
• private
• custom
• non-timetable day.

  Note: Automatic and custom calendar memberships are granted based on calendar membership rules. See Membership Configuration - Rules tab.

Automatic calendar memberships

Automatic calendar memberships are granted to students and staff members based on default membership rules that create links between their community IDs and Sources. See Membership Configuration - Rules tab.

Sources are used to automatically generate calendar memberships. Examples of sources include:

• campuses
• classes
• constituencies
• file types
• staff categories.

Each category in a source is represented by a calendar membership. When students and staff members are assigned categories they automatically receive access to the relevant calendar memberships.

For example, the Category field on the School tab of the Staff Maintenance window is a source. When the Administration category is assigned to staff members in the School tab of Staff Maintenance they automatically receive the Administration calendar membership and the ability to view its appointments in the calendar.

Note: The list of calendar memberships displayed in the Name column of Membership Configuration automatically updates when new categories are added to sources. For example, adding a new Co-Curricular Teacher category to the staff category source also creates a Co-Curricular Teacher calendar membership.

Private calendar memberships

Each community member always has access to a calendar that displays their private appointments.

Custom calendar membership

Custom calendar memberships are granted based on custom membership rules that define calendar membership according to specific criteria. See Creating calendar membership rules.

Non-timetable day calendar membership

The Non timetable day calendar membership is granted to all community members and is used to record non-timetabled days such as public holidays. See Scheduling non-timetable days.
