Victorian Curriculum F-10

On 14 September 2015, the Victorian Government launched Victoria’s response to the Australian Curriculum - the Victorian Curriculum. The Victorian Curriculum has two parts:

• most students are covered by the Victorian Curriculum F–10
• a small group of students with disabilities, whose learning progress precedes Foundation level of the curriculum and well outside the expected level of their peers, are covered by the Victorian Curriculum A–D.

The Victorian Curriculum F-10:

• sets out what every school student should learn
• incorporates the Australian Curriculum while reflecting the priorities and standards in Victoria, Australia; for example, while the Australian Curriculum is organised by year levels, the Victorian Curriculum F–10 design is structured by levels of learning
• is being progressively implemented at schools in Victoria:
  • some parts were able to be implemented in 2016
  • some are being implemented in 2017
  • others, such as English as an Additional Language (EAL), will not be ready until after 2017.
• progressively replaces AusVELS curriculum.

Catholic schools in Victoria

In Catholic schools, implementation of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 will commence from 2017 and must be fully implemented by the end of 2018; at schools where it is planned, taught, assessed and reported upon.

In 2017 Catholic schools in Victoria are implementing:

• Victorian Curriculum F-10
• Religious Education (RE) and Religious Education Renewed (REN) to complement the Victorian Curriculum.

Transitional requirements

The following new text must appear on all school reports when schools transition to the Victorian Curriculum F-10:

Progress is shown for English and Mathematics. As new curriculum areas are introduced and taught in the Victorian Curriculum, your child’s progress will show the level of achievement in that curriculum area. Progress will only be shown when a curriculum area is reported on for the second time.

Transitioning to the Victorian Curriculum F-10

To transition to the Victorian Curriculum F-10:

1. Load the pre-defined curriculum frameworks using the Subject Assessment Other Definition Maintenance window. See Loading pre-defined curriculum frameworks.

   You can load:

   • Victorian Curriculum F-10 framework
   • Religious Education (RE) framework (CEOVIC organisations only)
   • Religious Education Renewed (REN) framework (CEOVIC organisations only).

   

2. Load external system lookup table data into the luReportResultType lookup table. See luReportResultType lookup table.

   You can load:

   • AusVELS Curriculum
   • Religious Education (RE) (CEOVIC organisations only)
   • Religious Education (REN) (CEOVIC organisations only)
   • Victorian Curriculum.

3. Add the DNP (Did Not Participate) result to the luReportResultType lookup table. See Adding the DNP result to the luReportResultType lookup table.
4. Load external system lookup table data into the luReportResultClassification lookup table. See luReportResultClassification lookup table.

   You can load:

   • AusVELS Curriculum
   • Religious Education (RE) (CEOVIC organisations only)
   • Religious Education (REN) (CEOVIC organisations only)
   • Victorian Curriculum.

5. Create Victorian Curriculum F-10 subject assessments. You can either:
   • Transition existing AusVELS subject assessment areas to the Victorian Curriculum F-10. See Transitioning subject assessment areas from AusVELS to Victorian Curriculum F-10.

   

   • Create new subject assessments by:
     • Creating new subject assessments for each Victorian Curriculum F-10 subject. See Creating new subject assessments.
     • Creating new subject assessment areas for each Victorian Curriculum F-10 subject assessment. See Creating new Victorian Curriculum F-10 subject assessment areas.

       Tip: You can also create subject assessment areas for entering the results students are expected to attain. See Creating subject assessment areas for entering expected results.

6. Ensure the Show Result Classification field is selected for each Victorian Curriculum subject assessment on the Summary sub-tab of the Summary tab of Subject Assessment Maintenance. See Subject Assessment Maintenance - Summary tab - Summary sub-tab.

   

   Tip: You can complete this step faster by setting the Show Results Classification field value in bulk. See Setting field values in bulk in the Introduction manual.

Entering Victorian Curriculum results

Once you have completed the transition to the Victorian Curriculum F-10 curriculum framework you can enter Victorian Curriculum results in Student Results Maintenance. See Maintaining student results.

Students that do not participate in assessments need to be given the DNP (Did Not Participate) result value. When this value is selected you are prompted to enter a mandatory result classification. For information on adding the DNP result value, see Adding the DNP result to the luReportResultType lookup table.

Note: You can create expected result subject assessment areas to enter the results students are expected to attain. See Creating subject assessment areas for entering expected results.
